Alpaca felted wool slippers. Pure sophistication with a Moroccan
Oozing glamour and sophistication these cream and silver felt slippers are the perfect choice to warm your feet on those cold nights and mornings.
From the little turned up toe and the hand embroidered motif, our Moroccan inspired Zahara slipper is sure to please those who desire a classic, understated and elegant slipper.
Our felt house slippers are handcrafted from many layers of creamy, soft alpaca fibre, grown right here on our alpaca farm in the Australian countryside.
Did you know that alpaca fibre is 3 times warmer and lighter than wool?
Alpaca fibres are hollow, trapping warm air inside. So when you wear our felt slippers, your feet stay at the perfect temperature – not too hot, not too cold but just right. (About 50 degrees F or 10 degrees C).
Our Zahara alpaca felted slippers are designed for the woman who appreciates superior comfort combined with unique style.
You will never have cold feet again because bbohe has your slipper needs covered.
How we make your felted slippers ….
After the shearing the alpacas in the spring, the raw fleece is washed and combed. The clean fibre is layered on a template. Warm water and a little soap are used to wet and open up the fibres and ready them for felting.
Many layers are formed and then the rolling phase begins. This agitation locks the fibres in a permanent bond.
Next, the inner template is removed and the felt booties are rinsed and rubbed on a rippled surface to harden the felt. This is called “fulling”.
The slipper boots are put on a last (shoe form) and sculpted into the desired shape.
Our felt house slippers are then rinsed, spun and left to dry. When dry, the slippers can be embellished with embroidery and a leather sole is applied using both glue and hand stitching with waxed Irish linen twine.
